Brazil will square off against Switzerland in their second fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Group G on November 28 at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium in Qatar. The match is scheduled to start at 9:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

The Brazil national football team started their campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Serbia earlier this week.

Richarlison was on target twice for the World No. 1 team in the match. The Tottenham Hotspur forward opened the scoring just after the hour mark before netting what could be deemed as a strong contender for goal of the tournament.

In the 73rd minute, Vinicius Jr.’s neat footwork on the left flank set up Richarlison for an overhead kick, which left Serbia goalie Vanja Milinkovic-Savic with no chance of making a save.

However, their victory was marred by an unfortunate injury to talisman Neymar, who will miss the remaining group phase matches. The PSG striker is expected to be back for the knockouts if Brazil progress to the Round of 16.

On the other hand, the Switzerland national football team registered a narrow 1-0 win against Cameroon.

Attacker Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the match just after half-time as some good saves from their goalkeeper Yann Sommer throughout the match kept the lead intact.

Nonetheless, they now face a lethal Selecao, who have won each of their last eight matches across all competitions, scoring 28 goals while conceding only twice.

The Rossocrociati’s defence line needs to put their best foot forward if they are to take any points off this Brazil team.

Brazil vs Switzerland head-to-head

The two sides have faced each other on nine instances in all competitions, with Brazil winning three of them. Switzerland won twice while four games ended in a stalemate.

Interestingly, the two teams were slotted in the same group in the last edition as well, with the match finishing 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

Switzerland host Portugal on matchday 4 of the UEFA Nations League 2022-23 at Stade de Geneve in the early hours of Monday, June 13. The match will kick-off at 12:15 AM IST.

Switzerland are set to welcome veteran defender Fabian Schar, who missed the previous outing due to suspension. For Portugal, while there are no injury issues whatsoever, manager Fernando Santos might look to give senior defender Pepe a much-needed rest.

Switzerland vs Portugal recent form

With three losses in as many outings, Switzerland are at the bottom of League A Group 2 standings. The team started off their Nations League campaign with a 1-2 defeat to the Czech Republic, followed by a 0-4 trashing at hands of Portugal and a 0-1 defeat to Spain. In fact, the team is without a win in each of their last five matches, with their last win coming in November 2021 against Bulgaria.

Portugal, on the other hand, are at the top of the table with two wins and one draw. Unlike Switzerland, Santos?men are undefeated in their last five matches (W4, D1).

Portugal: W, W, D, W, W

Switzerland vs Portugal head-to-head

Surprisingly, the Switzerland vs Portugal head-to-head record is dominated by the former who have recorded 10 wins in 24 matches. As for Portugal, they have come out on top one nine occasions while five matches have ended without a winner.

Interestingly enough, Portugal have won each of their last three matches against Switzerland, including a 4-0 win in the ongoing Nations League campaign.

Portugal: 9

Portugal, without a doubt, have been one of the most confident sides in the ongoing Nations League campaign. Even if Santos decides to bench a few veterans, including Cristiano Ronaldo, they have more than enough firepower in their squad to trouble an already struggling Swiss defence.

Hence, it does not really strike as any surprise that Portugal are the odds on favourites.

Switzerland host Spain on matchday 3 of the UEFA Nations League 2022-23 at Stade de Genève in the wee hours of Friday, June 10. The match will kick-off at 12:15 AM IST (Indian Standard Time).

Spain manager Luis Enrique had made a host of changes to his starting XI against the Czech Republic, but regular starters like Pau Torres, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets are likely to return to the line-up against Switzerland.

The host team, on the other hand, will miss the services of veteran centre-back Fabian Schar after he was cautioned for the second time in as many games during his last outing.

Switzerland vs Spain recent form

Switzerland and Spain are the only teams from League A Group 2 who are yet to win a match this season. While the former have lost each of their last two games, Spain have been held to a 1-1 draw by Portugal and a 2-2 draw by the Czech Republic.

Despite the back-back draws, Spain’s form has been brilliant as they haven’t lost a game since September 2021. Between September to the date of writing, Spain have won six of their eight matches.

Switzerland, on their part, are without a win since beating Bulgaria 4-0 in November 2021. Since then, they have lost three of their last four matches.

Switzerland vs Spain head to head

In a total of 23 meetings between the two, Spain have won a whopping 17 matches while Switzerland have come out on top only once. As many as five matches have been drawn.

Since the turn of the century, Switzerland and Spain have played five matches. During this time, Spain have won twice, Switzerland have won once while two games have been drawn.

Switzerland: 1

Spain: 17

Draw:5

Switzerland vs Spain prediction and football betting tips for UEFA Nations League 2022-23

Spain are expected to have a more familiar starting XI against Switzerland than they had against the Czechs which make them the outright favourites to beat Switzerland. And given Switzerland’s recent defensive record followed by Fabian Schar’s suspension, the home team will need more than just luck to hold Spain at least for a draw.

Spain are undeniably the better team on paper which is mostly why they are the odds on favourites too.

Swiss super fan Luca Loutenbach, who became a viral sensation after the round of 16 UEFA Euro 2020 match between Switzerland and France in Bucharest on Monday, has been handed free business class flight tickets to go watch his country play Spain in the quarter-finals at Saint Petersburg on Friday.

Loutenbach experienced contrasting moods and his range of emotions within the span of a few minutes made him a viral sensation. While he looked in despair and agony in one image as Switzerland headed for a Euro exit, he was jubilant and euphoric in the next after his team equalised to take the match into extra time.

At one stage, Luca looked to be on the verge of tears with Switzerland heading out of the tournament as they trailed France going into the final minutes of normal time.

However, a few moments later he had taken off his jersey and was seen zealously celebrating as Switzerland completed an improbable comeback to tie the score at 3-3 and take the game into extra time. His rollercoaster of emotions in the closing stages of normal time was captured on camera and went viral on social media.

Switzerland later went on to register one of the biggest upsets in UEFA Euro history with a 5-4 win on penalties after Kylian Mbappe missed the decisive spot-kick.

In addition to the flight tickets, drinks brand Red Bull have got in touch with Luca to offer some freebies while the Swiss government wants him to be a part of their COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

And if that weren’t enough, the Swiss Tourist Office has also offered to give him a relaxing break following UEFA Euro 2020.

This isn’t the first time a fan has gone viral after a passionate show of emotions. Muhammad Sarim Akhtar became a social media sensation during the 2019 Cricket World Cup in a match between Pakistan and Australia at Taunton.

The Pakistan fan was visibly upset after his team dropped a catch near the boundary ropes and his disappointed emotions were evident for all to see as the TV camera soon focused on him. He went on to become a viral sensation and is still frequently used as a meme.

UEFA Euro 2020 has already lived up to its billing by producing some edge of the seat footballing action. The ongoing edition of the European Championship has witnessed several surprising results, with defending champions Portugal, world champions France, Netherlands and Germany crashing out in the round of 16. As we head into the business end of the tournament, here are three interesting facts that you should know ahead of the quarter-final meetings.

Euro 2020 is first major tournament without France or Germany in quarter-finals since 1950

Pre-tournament favourites and world champions France suffered a shock Euro exit after losing to Switzerland 4-5 in a penalty shootout in their round of 16 tie at the National Arena in Bucharest, Romania.

After falling 3-1 behind heading into the last 10 minutes, Switzerland staged a marvellous comeback to draw level at 3-3 and take the tie into extra-time and subsequently, a penalty shootout. Kylian Mbappe’s miss in the shootout meant Switzerland reached their maiden quarter-final at a European championship.

In another tantalising round of 16 encounter, a star-studded England side defeated Germany 2-0 at the Wembley Stadium. This victory was the Three Lions?first win against Die Mannschaft in a major tournament’s knockout stage game since the 1966 FIFA World Cup final.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane propelled England into the Euros quarter-finals stage for the first time since 2012.

These results have ensured that the ongoing edition of Euro will be the first major tournament (World Cup or European Championships) since the 1950 FIFA World Cup where neither France nor Germany will participate in the quarter-finals.

Three third-placed teams advance to the Euro 2020 quarters

As many as three of the four third-placed teams from the group stage have booked their place in the ongoing edition of the European Championship quarter-final. While Switzerland, Czech Republic and Ukraine have made it to the last eight, defending champions Portugal are the only third-placed team to have suffered elimination in the round of 16.

The third-placed sides will have the same number of representatives in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals as teams that topped their groups like Italy, Belgium and England.

On the other hand, Denmark and Spain are the only two group runners-up to have advanced to the last eight.

Most own goals in a single edition of European championship

There have been plenty of own goals in the ongoing edition of the Euros. In fact, if own goals could win the Golden Boot, it would have a sizable lead on its closest rival.

As many as nine own goals have been scored in the ongoing edition of the tournament. Portugal football team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who leads the Golden Boot race has bagged five goals and provided one assist.

Euro 2020 started with an own goal scored by Turkish defender Merih Demiral in the opening game of the tournament between Italy and Turkey. Since then, Lukas Hradecky, Mats Hummels, Wojciech Szczesny, Ruben Dias, Raphael Guerreiro, Martin Dubravka, Juraj Kucka and Pedri have all added to the tally with seven games still to go.

Interestingly, Euro 2020 now has the same number of own goals as every other European Championship put together. Nine own goals were scored across previous editions (Euro 1960 - 2016), but that tally has been matched in a single edition in Euro 2020.

The Republic of Ireland missed out on automatic qualification for Euro 2020 as a 1-1 draw with Denmark in Dublin on Monday secured the visitors' place at next summer's showpiece.

Switzerland also booked their place at Euro 2020 with a 6-1 win over Gibraltar to claim top spot in Group A.

Ireland still have a chance to play in the Euros on home soil with Dublin one of 12 host cities but need to come through two playoff matches in March.

Martin Braithwaite's strike for Denmark 17 minutes from time left Mick McCarthy's men needing to score twice. Matt Doherty's first international goal was too little, too late.

"Overall I'm very pleased with the performance and very proud of the players, particularly after conceding, to push them right to the limit," McCarthy told Sky Sports.

"Play like that in the playoffs and we can beat anybody."

The hosts were seeking revenge for the 5-1 victory in Dublin two years ago that sent Denmark to the 2018 World Cup.

However, in six meetings between the sides over the past two years Ireland have scored just three goals. A lack of cutting edge cost them again.

Ireland scored just seven goals in eight qualifiers in total, including two meetings with Gibraltar.

"You need to score goals to win games and we haven't scored enough," said Doherty. "It was a tough group, we went all the way and we have to make sure we are right in March."

The hosts looked the most likely to make the breakthrough in a first half of few clear chances.

Conor Hourihane had the best of them but fired too close to Kasper Schmeichel as he insisted on taking the shot with his stronger left foot leaving only a narrow angle.

In contrast to recent meetings between the sides, Denmark were happy to sit back and force Ireland to break them down, knowing a point would be enough for qualification.

"We were terrible," admitted Danish captain Schmeichel. "We didn't hit anything that we tried to today. We had to rely on our grit and or determination."

However, the Danes produced the one moment of quality they needed when Braithwaite met Henrik Dalsgaard's cross on the stretch.

"We had to ride our luck at times but you need that when you are fighting for qualification," added Schmeichel.

Denmark can look forward to games at home in Copenhagen at the Euros.

"It means the world because we are a very small nation so the chance of playing games at home in a major tournament is amazing, it's unique," said Schmeichel.

Switzerland made sure they beat the Danes to top spot in the group by hitting Gibraltar for six.

Granit Xhaka was among the goalscorers as he put his woes at club level to one side after being stripped of the Arsenal captaincy due to his public run-in with the club's fans.
