Former Pakistan cricketer Kiran Baluch holds the record for the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket.

Opening the batting, Kiran Baluch scored 242 against West Indies Women in a one-off Test in Karachi in 2004 to record the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket.

Legendary India cricketer Mithali Raj features second on the list of the highest individual scores in women’s Test cricket.

Mithali Raj slammed 214 in the second Test of India Women’s tour of England in Taunton in 2002.

Australia Women’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry is third in the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket list. 

Ellyse Perry scored an unbeaten 213 against arch-rivals England Women in North Sydney in 2017.

Australian duo of Annabel Sutherland (210) and Karen Rolton (209*) complete the top five list.

Meanwhile, swashbuckling India opener Shafali Verma (205) is the other Indian to feature in the list.

Shafali Verma smashed the fastest double century in women’s Test cricket against South Africa Women after she achieved the feat off just 194 balls in Chennai in June 2024. Verma eclipsed Annabel Sutherland’s double century in 248 balls in February 2024.

Pakistan’s Kiran Baluch scripted history after she recorded the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket in Karachi in 2004. Put in to bat, former opening batter Kiran Baluch hammered 242 in the first innings of the only Test of West Indies Women’s tour of Pakistan 2004. Kiran Baluch’s record-breaking knock was laced with 38 fours. Her knock helped Pakistan Women post 426/7d in their first innings. In reply, West Indies Women were bundled out for 147 as the hosts enforced follow-on. Led by Stephanie Power, the visitors later bounced back in their second innings to post 440 all out. Chasing 162, Pakistan Women scored 58/2 before the match ended in a draw.

Mithali Raj | 214 vs England Women, Taunton, 2002

Former India Women’s captain Mithali Raj held the previous record for the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket. Batting at No.4, Mithali Raj scored 214 against England Women in the second Test in Taunton in 2002. After India Women bowled out England Women for 329 in their first innings, the visitors rode on Mithali Raj’s scintillating double ton to post 467. Raj’s magnificent knock included 19 boundaries. Later, the Clare Connor-led England Women scored 198/6d in their second innings as the match ended in a draw. 

Ellyse Perry | 213* vs England Women, North Sydney, 2017

Australia Women’s Ellyse Perry has the third-highest individual score in women’s Test cricket. Ellyse Perry slammed an unbeaten 213 in the only Test of England Women’s tour of Australia in North Sydney in 2017. After Australia bowled out England for 280 in their first innings, the hosts rode on Ellyse Perry’s brilliant double century to post 448/9d. Perry’s incredible knock was laced with 27 fours and one six. Later, England Women managed 206/2 in their second innings before the match ended in a dull draw.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of India’s most iconic cricket grounds located in the heart of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. 

Established in 1969, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is owned by the Government of Karnataka and has been leased out to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for a period of 100 years.

Originally known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, it was renamed  in tribute to Mangalam Chinnaswamy, who was the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1977 to 1980. He was  the founding member of the Mysore State Cricket Association and later served the KSCA for close to four decades.

Surrounded by the beautiful Cubbon Park, and uptown MG Road, the Bengaluru cricket ground has a seating capacity of around 34,000.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium staged its first international cricket match, a Test played between hosts India and West Indies in November 1974. The visitors won the Test by 267 runs.

Since then, it has hosted several Tests, ODIs and T20s across formats in men’s cricket.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium hosted its first women’s international match in November 1976 when the India women��s cricket team played a Test against West Indies. The fixture ended in a draw.

Two decades later, it staged its first women’s one-day international match between Australia and South Africa in a Women’s World Cup clash in December 1997. Led by Belinda Clark, Australia won the game by 10 wickets.

Highest total

The India women’s cricket team holds the record for the highest total at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in women’s ODI cricket. During the second ODI of South Africa Women’s tour of India in June 2024, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led hosts posted 325/3 in their 50 overs in Bengaluru. India rode on Smriti Mandhana’s 136 off 120 balls along with contributions from skipper Harmanpreet (103 not out) to register the highest women’s ODI total at the venue. South Africa women could manage a close 321/6 in 50 overs. India Women won the match by a low margin of four runs.

Lowest total

India also registered the lowest total at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the women’s ODI format. Electing to bat first, India Women were bundled out for 114 in 38.5 overs against South Africa in the first ODI of a three-match series. Jhulan Goswami (33) and Harmanpreet Kaur (31) were the top-scorers for India. Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk picked up four wickets each for the visitors. In reply, Chloe Tryon slammed a match-winning fifty to guide South Africa Women to a nail-biting two-wicket win in Bengaluru.

Most runs

Top-order batter Smriti Mandhana scored the most runs at this venue in women’s ODI cricket. The stylish southpaw amassed 400 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 78.12. She recorded one fifty in the ODI format on this ground. Former captain Mithali Raj is second on the list with 386 runs in 11 ODI matches on this ground.

Most wickets

Former India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami picked up the most wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in women’s ODI cricket. Between 2010 and 2015, the legendary right-arm pacer bagged 16 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 14.43 and an impressive economy of 2.48. India’s left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht features second on the list with 10 ODI wickets in seven games at an average of 17.80 and an economy of 2.84. 

Highest individual score

Smriti Mandhana registered the highest individual score at this venue in the women’s ODI format. Opening the batting, the flamboyant left-handed batter scored 136 off 120 balls during the second ODI of South Africa Women’s tour of India in June 2024. Smriti Mandhana’s scintillating knock was laced with 18 fours and two sixes. Her knock powered India Women to 325/3 in their allotted 50 overs. India Women later restricted South Africa Women to 321/6 to win the match by four runs.

Best bowling figures

Former England cricketer Katherine Sciver-Brunt recorded the best bowling figures at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in women’s ODI cricket. The right-arm pacer registered match-winning figures of 5/22 against India during the second ODI of England’s tour of India in February 2010. Defending 183, Katherine Sciver-Brunt dismissed Anagha Deshpande, Anjum Chopra, Priyanka Roy, Rumeli Dhar and Preeti Dimri to help England bowl out India for 180 in 49.3 overs. Sciver-Brunt’s magnificent spell guided England to a thrilling three-run win in Bengaluru. 

Highest partnership

South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp hold the record for the highest partnership at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the women’s ODI format. The right-handed batters forged a 184-run stand for the fourth wicket against India during the second ODI of South Africa Women’s tour of India in June 2024. Chasing 126, captain Wolvaardt scored an unbeaten 135 while Kapp scored 114. However, South Africa were short of target by just five runs, leading to India's win by four runs.

The India Women’s highest score in ODI cricket is 358/2 which was recorded against Ireland Women in Potchefstroom in May 2017.

During a Women's Quadrangular Series encounter, the Mithali Raj-led side posted their first 350-plus score to register India Women’s highest score in ODI cricket history.

Between 2017 and 2024, the India women's cricket team has posted five 300-plus totals in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, New Zealand holds the record for the highest score in women’s ODI cricket history.

Led by captain Suzie Bates, New Zealand Women scored 491/4 in their 50 overs against Ireland Women in the first ODI of a three-match series in June 2018.

In fact, New Zealand has the four highest totals in women’s ODI history. Apart from 491/4, New Zealand has recorded 455/5, 440/3 and 418 in their allotted 50 overs in a WODI game.

358/2 vs Ireland Women, May 2017

The India women's cricket team scripted history against Ireland Women in a Women's Quadrangular Series clash in May 2017. Electing to bat first, the Women in Blue rode on twin centuries from openers Deepti Sharma (188) and Punam Raut (109) to record India Women’s highest score in ODI cricket. Later, Mithali Raj-led India bowled out Ireland Women for 109 in 40 overs to secure a massive 249-run victory in Potchefstroom.

333/5 vs England Women, September 2022

The India Women’s second-highest score in ODI cricket came against England Women in Canterbury in September 2022. During the second ODI of India Women’s tour of England, captain Harmanpreet Kaur slammed an unbeaten 143 along with contributions from Harleen Deol (58) and Smriti Mandhana (40) to post a mammoth score of 333/5 in their 50 overs. In reply, England Women were bundled out for 245 in 44.2 overs as the visitors won the ODI by 88 runs.

325/3 vs South Africa Women, June 2024

The India Women’s third-highest score in ODI cricket was recorded against South Africa in Bengaluru in June 2024. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led hosts posted 325/3 in their 50 overs in the second ODI of a three-match series at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium. India rode on opener Smriti Mandhana’s 136 off 120 balls and Harmanpreet’s unbeaten 88-ball 103 to post a huge total on the board.

India women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj holds the record for most runs in Women’s ODI.

Having made her One-Day International debut against Ireland at Milton Keynes in 1999, Raj has aggregated 7,805 runs in 232 matches at an average of 50.68. She has registered seven centuries and 64 fifties in her illustrious career so far.

The Jodhpur-born cricketer is the only female cricketer to surpass the 7,000-run mark in women’s ODIs. Raj also holds the record for hitting most half-centuries in WODIs.

She is also the first woman to play 200 ODI matches and feature in six editions of the ICC Women’s World Cup. Under her leadership, India women reached the Women’s ODI World Cup final in 2005 and 2017.

Former England women skipper Charlotte Edwards features second on the list for most runs in Women’s ODI.

Between 1997 and 2016, Edwards amassed 5,992 runs in 191 ODI matches at an average of 38.16, including nine hundreds and 46 fifties in her career.

Having captained England in 117 ODI matches, the Edwards-led side won the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in 2009, defeating hosts Australia by four wickets in Sydney.

West Indies�?women all-rounder Stafanie Taylor is third on the list for most runs in Women’s ODI.

Taylor has accumulated 5,367 ODI runs in 148 matches at an average of 43.99 between 2008 and 2022. She has recorded seven tons and 38 half-centuries in her career so far.

New Zealand women cricketer Suzie Bates and former Australia captain Belinda Clark complete the top five list for most runs in Women’s ODI.

While Bates has amassed 5,114 runs in 145 ODI matches at an average of 40.58, Clark aggregated 4,844 runs in 118 ODIs at an average of 47.49.

Australian cricketer Belinda Clark holds the record for the most runs in a calendar year in women’s ODIs.

The former Australia women’s cricket team captain etched her name in the history books after scoring 970 runs in just 16 ODI matches in the 1997 calendar year. She scored three hundreds and four half-centuries that year and boasted a staggering average of 80.83.

Almost a quarter of that (970) runs came against Denmark during the 1997 Women’s World Cup in Mumbai. Clark smashed an unbeaten 229 off just 155 balls against Denmark in the group stage to record what was the highest individual score in Women’s ODI cricket at that time. The record was later broken by New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr after she scored 232 not out against Ireland in Dublin back in 2018.

Clark was a prolific run-scorer in Women’s ODI cricket as she also accumulated 842 runs in a calendar year in 2000 - the fifth-best tally on the all-time list. In that year, Clark scored 842 runs in 16 ODIs at an impressive average of 76.54. She had one century and six fifties to her name.

South Africa star cricketer Laura Wolvaardt is second on the all-time list for most runs in a calendar year in women’s ODIs. The swashbuckling opening batter has currently scored 882 runs in a calendar year in 2022. Wolvaardt has been in the best form of her life, amassing 882 runs in 18 matches at an average of 49. She has hit one hundred and eight fifties in 2022 so far. Wolvaardt needs another 89 runs to surpass the record of Belinda Clark.

Legendary New Zealand cricketer Debbie Hockley is third on the list. The former Kiwi batter scored 880 runs in 1997. Hockley accumulated the tally in 16 ODIs at an average of 62.85. She registered two tons and six fifties.

Former New Zealand cricketer Amy Satterthwaite features fourth on the list. The former vice-captain of New Zealand women’s cricket team scored 853 runs in a calendar year in 2016. Satterthwaite amassed those runs in just 15 matches at an average of 85.30. She smashed three hundreds and four half-centuries in Women’s ODI cricket in 2016.

Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma are the two Indian cricketers who have amassed more than 700 runs in a calendar year. Both, curiously, achieved the feat in 2017. While Deepti amassed 787 runs in 20 ODIs at an average of 49.18, former India captain Mithali Raj scored 783 runs in 19 matches at an average of 71.18.

Retired England cricketer Claire Taylor (807 runs) in 2005, star Australia duo of Meg Lanning (761 runs) and Ellse Perry (732 runs), both in 2016, complete the top 10.

Former India women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket on Wednesday.

At just the age of 16, Mithali Raj announced herself on the international stage as she smashed an unbeaten 114 against Ireland on her debut in a one day international (ODI) match at Milton Keynes in 1999. Three years later, she made her Test debut against England in Lucknow.

The 39-year-old represented India in 232 ODIs and 12 Test matches. She also played 89 T20I matches since making her debut against England in the shortest format in 2006.

In her career spanning almost 23 years, Mithali amassed 10,868 runs in 333 matches in international cricket. She scored eight hundreds and 85 fifties during the time. 

The veteran cricketer took to Twitter to announce her decision. 

“I set out as a little girl on the journey to wear the India blues as representing your country is the highest honour. The journey was full of highs and some lows. Each event taught me something unique and the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling, challenging and enjoyable years of my life,�?Mithali Raj wrote on Twitter, summing up her incredible journey.

“Like all journeys, this one too must come to an end. Today is the day I retire from all forms of International Cricket,�?she added.

Most runs in women’s international cricket: Mithali Raj holds the record for the most runs in women’s international cricket. The 39-year-old is the only player to score more than 10,500 runs in women’s international cricket, having amassed 10,868 runs in 333 matches.

Most runs in women’s ODIs: The former India captain has scored the most runs in women’s 50-over format. Mithali aggregated 7805 runs in 232 ODIs at an impressive average of 50.68. She smashed seven centuries and 64 fifties. Former England skipper Charlotte Edwards is second on the list with 5992 runs in 191 matches.

Most fifties in ODIs: Mithali Raj scored 64 fifties in ODI cricket, the most by any player in women’s cricket. Raj is followed by Charlotte Edwards, who registered 46 half-centuries in the 50-over format.

Most capped ODI player: Mithali Raj also ends her career as the most capped ODI player in history. She has represented India in 232 ODIs - the most by any player in women’s cricket. Her former teammate Jhulan Goswami is second on the list with 201 caps in the ODI format.

Youngest to score century in women’s ODI: Mithali Raj also holds the record of being the youngest player to score a century in Women’s ODIs. At 16 years and 205 days, Mithali smashed unbeaten 114 against Ireland in 1999.

Youngest to score a double century in women’s Test: At 19 years and 254 days, Mithali Raj scored a double century against England at Taunton in 2002, becoming the youngest player to achieve the feat in women’s Test cricket. She smashed 214 in the first innings as the match ended in a draw.

Most runs for India in T20Is: Mithali Raj has scored the most runs for India women’s cricket team in the shortest format. Raj amassed 2364 runs in 89 matches at an average of 37.52. India T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur is second on the list with 2319 runs in 121 matches.

Only female cricketer to play six World Cups: Mithali Raj is the only woman cricketer to appear at six ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups - 2000, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022.

Most matches as captain in women’s ODIs: The former Indian skipper also holds the record for captaining most matches in the 50-over format. Raj has captained India in 155 matches, winning 89 while suffering 63 losses. Charlotte Edwards follows Raj, having led England in 117 matches.

Longest ODI career for any player: At 22 years and 274 days, Mithali Raj now holds the record for the longest ODI career for any player. Raj played her last ODI in the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup against South Africa at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Australia women's cricket team cricketer Alyssa Healy holds the record for the most runs in a single edition of Women’s World Cup.

The swashbuckling wicket-keeper batter amassed 509 runs in nine matches at the 2022 Women's World Cup at an impressive strike rate of 103.66 while also maintaining an average of 56.55. Healy hit two centuries and two fifties in the tournament including smashing 170 against England in the Women's World Cup final at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Healy surpassed former New Zealand cricketer Debbie Hockley, who accumulated 456 runs in seven matches at the 1997 Women’s World Cup. Hockley, who played limited-overs cricket for the White Ferns between 1982 and 2000, registered two tons and two half-centuries, with a high score of an unbeaten 100 against Sri Lanka women.

Lindsay Reeler is third on the list for players with the most runs in a single edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup. The Australian women's cricket team opener scored 448 runs in eight matches at the 1988 Women’s World Cup with her best knock - 143 not out - coming against Netherlands women.

Reeler’s run tally in the 1988 Women’s World Cup was two better than Debbie Hockley’s record from the same edition when she hit 446 runs at an average of 63.71.

Belinda Clark is the fifth player with the most runs in a single edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup. The legendary Australian cricketer, who holds the record for the most Women’s World Cup matches as captain, aggregated 445 runs in their 1997 World Cup-winning campaign. She has also hit the highest individual score in a Women’s World Cup.

England women’s Janette Brittin also features in the list. Brittin, who top-scored for England in the 1993 Women’s World Cup final against New Zealand, finished as the leading run-getter of the same edition with 410 runs at an average of 51.25 in eight matches.

Mithali Raj is the only Indian cricketer to feature in the top 10 list for most runs in a single edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup. The Indian women’s cricket team’s ODI captain hit 409 runs in the 2017 Women’s World Cup. She is also one of the leading batters to have scored the most runs in the Women’s World Cup.

India women will lock horns with six-time winners Australia women in their fifth match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2022 at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday, March 19. The match will begin from 6:30 AM IST.

The Mithali Raj-led India will look to bounce back after suffering a four-wicket defeat against defending champions England women in a low-scoring encounter at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday. 

While India have secured victories over Pakistan and West Indies, the Women in Blue have lost their matches against New Zealand and England. With four points from as many matches, India women are currently placed third in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 standings. Apart from Australia, Mithali Raj’s side are scheduled to face South Africa and Bangladesh in their remaining matches of the tournament.

On the other hand, Australia women have been the most dominant team in the ongoing edition of ICC Women’s World Cup, winning all their four matches so far. The Aussies have already beaten arch-rivals England, Pakistan, New Zealand and West Indies. The Women in Blue started their 50-over World Cup campaign in an emphatic fashion after thrashing arch-rivals Pakistan by 107 runs at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on March 6.

However, India women suffered a 62-run defeat against hosts New Zealand women at Seddon Park in Hamilton on March 10.

India eves bounced back strongly, riding on twin hundreds from Smriti Mandhana (123) and vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur (109) to defeat West Indies women by 155 runs on March 12.

Defending champions England women later defeated India women by four wickets at Bay Oval on March 16.

With two wins and two losses, India women are currently placed third in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 standings with four points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.632.

How can India women qualify for ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022 semi-finals?

As per the format of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, each team will play the other seven sides once in the league phase with the top four teams sealing their place in the semi-finals.

India have already played four matches in the tournament so far, winning and losing two each. The Women in Blue are scheduled to face Australia (March 19), Bangladesh (March 22) and South Africa (March 27) in their remaining fixtures of ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

Four wins from seven matches in the league phase are deemed to be just about enough for a side to qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-finals.

Since India women have already registered two wins in the ICC Women’s World Cup so far, they need to win at least two of their three remaining fixtures while ensuring they don’t lose the other by a great margin to seal their place in the last four.

Considering India women play a dominant Australia women in their next match, Mithali Raj’s side need to ensure that even if they don’t win, they should not lose by a big margin as it will affect their NRR.

Former cricketer Thirush Kamini scored the first hundred for India in Women’s World Cup. 

In the first match of ICC Women’s World Cup at Brabourne Stadium in 2013, opening batter Kamini smashed 100 off 146 balls against West indies women to power the hosts to 284/6 in their 50 overs. 

In reply, West Indies women were bowled out for 179 as India secured a massive 105-run victory.

 

Who has scored most hundreds for India in Women’s World Cup?

Harmanpreet Kaur has scored most hundreds for India in Women’s World Cup. The middle-order batter has smashed three hundreds in the tournament. 

She scored an unbeaten 107 against England at Brabourne Stadium in 2013. However, India lost the match by 32 runs.

Later in 2017, Kaur hit 171 not out off just 115 balls against mighty Australia in the Women’s World Cup semi-final at the County Cricket Ground in Derby. India women defeated Australia women by 32 runs to storm into the final.

She later brought up her third hundred against West Indies women in the 2022 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. Kaur scored 109 off 107 balls to power India to 317/8. India women bowled out West Indies women for 162 as they secured a massive 155-run victory.
