Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim admitted the team wasn't ready for the tough demands of European football this season. He said taking a break from these games could help the team grow in the long run.

United finished a low 15th in the Premier League last season, missing out on European football entirely. This left them as one of nine English clubs not playing in Europe.

Amorim, who has started slowly with just one point from two league games, said they 'need time to develop as a team' to play hard games in the Champions and Premier League. The manager also plans to rotate the squad heavily for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game at League Two side Grimsby. 

Several players have been linked with exits, including Jadon Sancho and Antony dos Santos, while the future of striker Rasmus Højlund remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is also looking to leave after being left out of Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup. This is despite making England’s Euro 2024 final squad last year.

The pre-season gave some hope with wins over West Ham and Bournemouth in the US. However, the team’s struggles in competitive matches show how big Amorim’s rebuilding job is.

AS Roma made a £20 million offer to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. The Italian club aims to seal a deal before the transfer window closes on September 1, 2025.

Sancho, 25, joined United in 2021 for £73 million. Unfortunately, he struggled to find a consistent form on the field. Since then, he’d just made 83 appearances and scored 12 goals for the squad. He also spent the last 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

The winger has not been featured for any of United’s matches this season and was left out of the club’s summer tour.

Reports say Roma’s bid is for a permanent deal rather than another loan spell. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with United keen to reach an agreement. After all, they’ve already told the winger to find a new club before the window shuts.

If the deal goes through, it could offer Sancho a fresh start in Italy and a chance to rebuild his career.

After months of being linked to Arsenal, Benjamin Šeško was passed over by the Gunners. The North London club opted to sign Viktor Gyökeres instead, mostly due to the outstanding valuation that RB Leipzig was putting on the 22-year-old Slovenian striker.

It would have been a golden opportunity for Šeško to join one of the best clubs in Europe. Now, he will be looking to join other English clubs, mainly Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Newcastle United want to get the Isak replacement

In the 2025 summer transfer window, Newcastle United have struggled to get their business going. That worsened when Alexander Isak made his stance known, as he wants to join Liverpool on a transfer. He is their star striker and best player, so losing him would be a massive loss for the club. 

They want to keep the Swedish striker, but they also know this is the right time to cash in on their star player. Newcastle has set the transfer price at £150 million. If Liverpool cannot match that valuation, they will struggle with signing him as their new striker. However, that can change and decrease slightly if they acquire another striker for the squad.

That is where Šeško comes in, as he could be the ideal replacement for Isak. He does not have the most eye-popping numbers, but he has all the talent and physical tools to become the new star striker for the Magpies.

The other club interested in getting Šeško is Manchester United. This is another striker signing they could make after their experiments with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed.

Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United. The 27-year-old forward called the move a fresh start and said Barcelona feels like home.

Barcelona will pay his wages this season, and the deal includes a �?0 million option to make the move permanent next summer. Rashford agreed to a pay cut to seal the transfer.

Manchester United have put their move for Bryan Mbeumo on hold after Brentford raised their asking price to £70 million. United offered £65 million and expected to complete the deal soon, but Brentford changed their stance late in the talks.

Mbeumo made it clear he wants to join United. Club bosses Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox believed the deal was close, but now refuse to overspend. Brentford feel confident as they hold a one-year extension on Mbeumo’s contract. United, meanwhile, plan to wait and see if the deal becomes more affordable.

In another move, Brentford tried to sign Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson but failed to meet his £35 million release clause. Ipswich rejected their offer, which was spread across instalments.

Real Madrid have signed Álvaro Carreras from Benfica for �?0 million (£43m), giving the 22-year-old a six-year deal. The left-back trained with Madrid’s youth team from 2017 to 2020 before moving to Manchester United.

Though he didn’t play for United’s main squad, Carreras gained game time while on loan at Preston and Granada. In January 2024, he joined Benfica on loan, then signed full-time in May for a reported £5 million. He made 68 games for Benfica, scored five goals, and helped them take second place in the league last season. He also played in their Club World Cup squad. Star defender Jonny Evans has officially retired from football after a career that spanned 19 years and over 500 club appearances. He ends his journey on the pitch and takes on a new role behind the scenes as Manchester United’s Head of Loan and Pathways.

In his new job, Evans will work closely with director of football Jason Wilcox alongside the club’s academy director. His focus is aimed at helping young players grow through well-planned loan moves. ‘I am looking forward to working with the next generation of talented players to support them to reach their potential,�?he noted.

Evans shared his feelings about this new milestone, saying that he’s retiring with ‘pride, gratitude, and excitement for the next chapter ahead.�?He thanked everyone who shaped his journey, from staff to players and his fans.

Aston Villa’s dream of reaching the Champions League ended in anger after a costly referee mistake at Manchester United. The turning point came in the 73rd minute when Villa believed they had scored a crucial goal.

Harry Maguire’s weak header forced United keeper Altay Bayindir to scramble. As he tried to grab the ball, Villa’s Morgan Rogers poked it free and scored. However, referee Thomas Bramall had blown his whistle before the ball went in. The video assistant referee (VAR) couldn’t review the goal, so it didn’t count. This angered Villa’s players, manager Unai Emery, and their fans.

The match stayed goalless until United struck late. Amad Diallo scored with a header from Bruno Fernandes�?cross. Later, Bramall gave United a penalty when Ian Maatsen fouled Diallo. Christian Eriksen scored, sealing the 2-0 win.
