Under newly-appointed Swedish manager Mikael Stahre, Kerala Blasters will compete in their first major tournament in the 2024-25 season.

Ahead of the new season, the Blasters earlier axed former manager Ivan Vukomanovic after they once again failed to end their search for an elusive trophy since their existence in 2014.

The three-time Indian Super League (ISL) runners-up Blasters have roped in the likes of Noah Sadaoui, Alexandre Coeff, Nora Fernandes, Likmabam Rakesh, Naocha Singh, Som Kumar and R. Lalthanmawia to bolster their squad.

Last season’s stars including Jeakson Singh, Dimitrios Diamantakos, Marko Leskovic, Fedor Cerynch, Nishu Kumar, Karanjit Singh, Daisuke Sakai and Lara Sharma have departed from the club.

On the other hand, Mumbai City FC have decided to field a reserve squad for the Durand Cup 2024 as most of their first-team players are training elsewhere under head coach Petr Kratky.

In the absence of the senior team, it will offer a perfect opportunity for the Mumbai City youngsters to showcase their talent and stake a claim in the first-team.

As per the Durand Cup 2024 format, as many as 24 teams have been divided into six groups of four teams each.

Table-toppers from each group and the top two second-placed teams will qualify for the Durand Cup 2024 knockouts.

Kerala Blasters were knocked out in the Durand Cup group stage last season while Mumbai City lost to Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-3 in the quarter-finals.

Led by head coach Ivan Vukomanović, Kerala Blasters will aim to bounce back after going down to Bengaluru FC in inexplicable circumstances in the ISL knockout playoffs last season.

Bengaluru were awarded the win after the Blasters?players walked off the pitch protesting an extra-time freekick scored by Sunil Chhetri.

Ahead of the new season, both teams have made several changes to their squad.

The likes of Sahal Abdul Samad, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Jessel Carneiro, and Harmanjot Singh Khabra have left KBFC.

Sandesh Jhingan, Roy Krishna, Udanta Singh and Prabir Das have departed BFC.

Additionally, few of the players are on national duty for the Asian Games 2023. While KBFC will miss the services of Rahul KP and Bryce Miranda, BFC will be without their captain Sunil Chhetri and Rohit Danu.

KBFC vs BFC Dream11 prediction

Kerala Blasters FC will play their first home game of the ISL 2023-24 against Bengaluru FC on Thursday. While Bengaluru have a clear edge over Kerala in their ISL head-to-head record, the Blasters will bank on their home support. KBFC pipped BFC 3-2 in their previous meeting in Kochi last year.

Going by their home advantage, Kerala Blasters FC will start as slight favourites against Bengaluru FC.

Odisha FC will host Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 fixture on October 23 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The match is scheduled to commence at 7:30 PM IST.

The Kalinga Warriors kick-started their campaign with a thrilling comeback win over Jamshedpur FC. After trailing 2-0 within the first 10 minutes, Odisha FC raced ahead courtesy of Brazilian forward Diego Mauricio’s brace and Indian midfielder Issac Vanmalsawma’s goal to win by 3-2.

However, they failed to capitalise on that win as they went down 2-0 to 2020-21 champions Mumbai City FC in their previous fixture.

On the other hand, Kerala Blasters FC have also had a similar start to their ISL 2022-23 campaign.

KBFC won their opening game against East Bengal FC by 3-1 thanks to a brace by substitute midfielder Ivan Kaliuzhnyi. Nonetheless, a 5-2 loss against ATK Mohun Bagan FC put brakes on the positive start, leaving coach Ivan Vukomanovic with plenty of defensive woes.

The two teams currently occupy the eighth and the ninth positions in the league table with the same goal difference. However, Kerala Blasters find themselves in a better position due to more goals scored.

Odisha FC vs Kerala Blasters FC head-to-head in Indian Super League

The two teams have faced each other on 18 occasions in ISL history, with Kerala Blasters winning on six instances and Odisha FC emerging victorious five times.

As many as seven games have ended in stalemate, including an eight-goal thriller in the 2019-20 season’s group stage which finished 4-4 after 90 minutes.

In addition to ISL, the sides have squared off once in the Durand Cup earlier this year, with Odisha FC winning the group stage fixture 2-0.

Kerala Blasters FC will square off against East Bengal FC in the opening match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Friday, October 7.

Under the tutelage of manager Ivan Vukomanović and captain Jessel Carneiro, Kerala Blasters will aim to go one step further after finishing runners-up in the previous edition of the ISL. The Blasters lost to Hyderabad FC on penalties in the ISL 2021-22 final at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa earlier in March this year.

Having registered nine wins, seven draws and four losses, the Ivan Vukomanović-coached side had earlier finished fourth in the ISL 2021-22 standings with 34 points from 20 matches to advance to the semi-finals. The Blasters had later pipped ISL Shield winners Jamshedpur FC 2-1 in the two-legged semi-finals to storm into the summit clash.

Since the inception of the ISL in 2014, Kerala Blasters have finished as runners-up in 2014, 2016 and 2021-22 seasons. The Tuskers will start as one of the favourites to clinch their maiden title this season.

On the other hand, the revamped East Bengal squad will look for an improved showing after finishing at the bottom of the ISL 2021-22 standings. The Red and Gold Brigade managed just a solitary win in 11 matches last season as they accumulated 11 points from 20 matches.

Having moved from I-League to ISL in 2020, East Bengal had finished ninth in their inaugural ISL campaign.

Led by newly-appointed head coach Stephen Constantine, East Bengal have assembled a strong squad comprising experienced Indian and foreign players ahead of the ninth season of ISL.

First-time finalists Hyderabad FC take on Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League 2021-22 final at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao on Sunday, March 20. The final will begin from 7:30 PM IST.

The Nizams, who astonished one and all with their consistent run of form this season, are the tournament’s highest goal-scorers having notched a whopping 46 goals across the league stage and the play-off rounds. This translates to a little more than two goals every match.

Kerala, on the other hand, are averaging 1.6 goals this season and their defensive record is more or less similar to that of Hyderabad’s having conceded 25 goals in 22 games.

The race to qualify for the play-off spots was smoother for Hyderabad than it was for Kerala. With inconsistency haunting them throughout, the Blasters had to somewhat rely on Mumbai City FC’s results towards the end of the league stage to finish in the top four.

Kerala exceeded expectations when they beat tournament favourites Jamshedpur FC across two legs in the semi-final to set up a showdown against Hyderabad in the final.

Hyderabad FC vs Kerala Blasters head-to-head

The Hyderabad FC vs Kerala Blasters head-to-head record is evenly poised as both teams have won three games each. In a total of six meetings between the two teams, Kerala have scored 10 goals while the Nizams have notched nine.

There’s absolutely nothing to separate the two even in the ongoing season. In their first meeting on January 9, Kerala put a stop to Hyderabad’s eight-game unbeaten run with Alvaro Vazquez’s 42nd-minute goal proving to be the difference.

A month later, ISL’s all-time top scorer Bartholomew Ogbeche and Javier Siverio got on the scoresheet to beat Kerala 2-1.

It’s all to play for Jamshedpur FC (JFC) in the second leg of the Indian Super League 2021-22 semi-final 1 against Kerala Blasters (KBFC). The two teams will go head-to-head for the final time this season at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco da Gama on Tuesday, March 15. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM IST.

KBFC vs JFC Dream11 prediction

To everyone’s surprise, Jamshedpur FC succumbed to a surprising 1-0 defeat against Kerala Blasters in the first leg last week that ended a seven-game winning run in the ISLDespite beating KBFC 3-0 earlier in the season, the Red Miners just couldn’t find a way to open the scoring and were confined to just six attempts on goal.

It’s all or nothing for both teams on Tuesday and based on performances this season, we expect Jamshedpur to turn things around in the second leg.

KBFC vs JFC Dream11 team tips for Indian Super League 2021-22

Top tip: Best forward

JFC frontman Greg Stewart was closely marked by the Kerala defence and one can expect the English forward to face a similar tactic on Tuesday. However, given his experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership, Stewart might as well find a way to play a big role and add more points to his already illustrious tally of 1,266 fantasy points.

Top tip: Best midfielder

KBFC’s Sahal Abdul Samad was on the scoresheet against Jamshedpur in the first leg and will pose a great threat on Tuesday too. The 24-year-old midfielder has been a glaring presence in the KBFC team this season, scoring six goals and one assist, resulting in a tally of 659 fantasy points.

Top tip: Best defender and goalkeeper

Selected by 86.25 per cent fantasy users, Jamshedpur FC captain Peter Hartley is an outright pick for a defender. The veteran centre-half has been excellent this season and is one of the many reasons why the Red Miners have qualified for the playoffs in the first place. He remains a strong recommendation for this contest.

Finally, for a goalkeeper, JFC’s TP Rehnesh could prove to be a coupe instead of his competitor Prabhsukhan Singh given the former is more likely to keep a clean sheet.

KBFC vs JFC probable playing XI

KBFC playing XI (probable): Prabhsukhan Singh Gill (goalkeeper), Ruivah Hormipam, Sandeep Singh, Sanjeev Stalin, Marko Leskovic, Lalthathanga Khawlhring, Ayush Adhikari, Sahal Samad, Adrian Luna (captain), Jorge Ortiz, Alvaro Vazquez

JFC playing XI (probable): TP Rehenesh (goalkeeper); Laldinliana Renthlei, Eli Sabia, Peter Hartley (captain), Ricky Lallawmawma; Jitendra Singh, Pronay Halder; Ritwik Das, Greg Stewart, Seiminlen Doungel; Daniel Chukwu

Newly crowned League Winners' Shield champions Jamshedpur FC (JFC) take on Kerala Blasters (KBFC) in the first leg of the Indian Super League 2021-22 semi-final at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao on Friday, March 11. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM IST.

JFC vs KBFC Dream11 prediction

The head to head record between Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters is dominated by the former, who have won three of their 10 meetings in the ISL. Kerala Blasters, on the other hand, have only managed a solitary win while as many as six games have been drawn.

Come Friday, we expect Owen Coyle’s men to beat KBFC for the second time in three games, having already defeated them once this season. Interestingly, the last time these two sides met, in-form forward Greg Stewart scored twice from the penalty spot while Daniel Chima Chukwu capped off a 3-0 win for the Red Miners.

JFC vs KBFC Dream11 team tips for Indian Super League 2021-22

Top tip: Best forward

With three goals in two games already this season against Kerala Blasters, JFC forward Greg Stewart has proved to be quite a menace for the Blasters. The former Dundee striker has been involved in 21 goals this season (G11, A10) - most by any player - making him one of the top fantasy picks for the upcoming contest.

Top tip: Best midfielder

After being dropped to the bench against FC Goa, KBFC’s Adrian Luna will return to the starting XI for the all-important semi-final first leg against Jamshedpur FC. The 29-year-old Uruguayan has accrued 930 fantasy points this season while making it to the Dream Team in eight of his last 10 outings. He’s scored five goals as well as provided seven assists this season and is a smart pick among midfielders.

Top tip: Best defender and goalkeeper

JFC captain Peter Hartley is an outright pick for a defender. The veteran center-back has tallied 528 fantasy points this season which is the most by any defender involved in this fixture. The fact that he has made it to the Dream Team in three of his last five outings should make him one of the first names in your fantasy teams.

Finally, for a keeper, JFC’s TP Rehenesh should be preferred ahead of KBFC’s Prabhsukhan Singh as the former is more likely to keep a clean sheet in the first leg.

JFC vs KBFC probable playing XI

JFC playing XI (probable): TP Rehenesh (goalkeeper); Laldinliana Renthlei, Eli Sabia, Peter Hartley (captain), Ricky Lallawmawma; Jitendra Singh, Pronay Halder; Ritwik Das, Greg Stewart, Seiminlen Doungel; Daniel Chukwu

KBFC playing XI (probable): Prabhsukhan Singh Gill (goalkeeper), Ruivah Hormipam, Sandeep Singh, Sanjeev Stalin, Marko Leskovic, Lalthathanga Khawlhring, Ayush Adhikari, Sahal Samad, Adrian Luna (captain), Jorge Ortiz, Alvaro Vazquez

The eighth edition of the Indian Super League is set to begin on November 19, 2021. 11 teams will compete in the country’s premier football competition, with the top four spots in the ISL points table a target for all the clubs with regards to AFC Champions League and AFC Cup playoff qualification.

This is because the qualification procedure of the ISL playoffs remains the same in ISL 2021-22.

How does the ISL points table work?

115 matches (110 league games + five playoffs) will be played over the course of the ISL campaign - all behind closed doors in Goa. The top four teams from the league stages will qualify for the ISL playoffs.

The team that will finish at the top of the ISL points table will be awarded the ISL League Winners Shield and will also earn a place in the AFC Champions League group stage.

Each ISL team will play the other twice in a round-robin format, which means each club will play 20 matches in the league stages. Their results will dictate what they earn:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

The final position of a club in the standings will be determined by the points won during the league stage games. If two or more teams are level on points, the position in the standings will be decided by the following determining factors (in order):

  • Most points earned between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Superior goal difference between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Most goals scored between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Superior goal difference in all league matches
  • Most goals scored in all league matches
  • Highest fair play ranking
  • Drawing of lots

FC Goa and Kerala Blasters played out an entertaining 4-4 draw in match 109 of Indian Super League 2021-22 at GMC Bambolim Stadium in Goa on Sunday, March 6. With this stalemate, the Blasters qualified for the playoffs by ending the league phase on fourth spot while Goa ended their disappointing campaign in ninth place in the standings.
