Chile will host Brazil in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier match at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago on Friday, October 11.

The Chile vs Brazil FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier match will start at 05:30 AM IST on Friday. Live streaming of the match will be available in India.

Brazil are coming into this contest after a 0-1 loss at Paraguay last month. Chile also lost their last encounter at 1-2 at the same venue against the travelling Bolivia in September.

Brazil are currently fifth in the FIFA World Cup 2026 CONMEBOL region qualifying standings with 10 points from three wins, four losses and a draw after eight rounds.

Chile have won only once, drawn twice and lost five games, totaling five points and lie in the ninth spot in the 10-team table.

CONMEBOL, also known as the South American Football Confederation, has a total of 10 teams with each team playing two matches, at home and away, against all the other sides.

The top-six teams after 18 rounds of matches will directly qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026 which will be jointly hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. The team placed seventh will proceed to play in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.

Five-time World Champions Brazil had topped the last two editions of the FIFA World Qualifiers in the CONMEBOL region. Brazil are ranked fifth in the FIFA World Rankings whereas Chile are in the 49th spot.

Chile (CHI) will welcome a confident Brazil (BRA) football team at Estadio Monumental David Arellano for their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier match on Friday, September 3 at 6:30 AM IST.

CHI vs BRA Dream11 prediction

Brazil have been exceptional in their world cup qualifiers, winning all of their six matches so far. Chile, on the other hand, have been anything but with just a solitary win in the qualifiers that places them seventh in the standings.

Since their first-ever meeting in 1916, the two teams have played 73 matches, with Brazil winning a whopping 52 and losing just eight. Selecao’s last defeat against Chile dates back to October 2015 when goals from Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez guided them to a 2-0 win.

Brazil are set to be without several first-team members which include the likes of Alisson, Ederson, Thiago Silva, Fabinho, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison. The team, however, still has a lot of firepower to win their seventh match of the qualifiers.

CHI vs BRA Dream11 team tips for CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier

Top tip: Best forward

BRA’s Neymar has scored five goals in the qualifiers so far and he is expected to be the biggest goal threat against Chile. The forward has also assisted four goals and remains a must-have player for all fantasy managers. He is also a smart choice for the captaincy.

Top tip: Best midfielder

Lucas Paqueta scored the winning goal against Chile the last time these two teams met to give Brazil a passage to the semi-final of Copa America 2021. With many first-team members missing, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to play an important role on Friday.

Top tip: Best defender and goalkeeper

Brazil right-back Dani Alves could be a trump card for fantasy managers. With Chile struggling to keep clean sheets, picking a defender from their squad would be a gamble. Alves has always enjoyed playing alongside Neymar in the past and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the duo combine for goals on Friday.

While Brazil are most likely to keep a clean sheet, Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo should be picked ahead of his opposite number mostly due to his experience, his ability to make reaction saves and a proven track record of saving penalties, which could be a bonus for fantasy managers.

CHI vs BRA probable playing XI

CHI playing XI (probable): Bravo; Isla, Medel, Maripan, Mena; Vidal, Aranguiz, Pulgar; Jiminez; Meneses, Vargas

BRA playing XI (probable): Weverton; Dani Alves, Marquinhos, Militao, Sandro; Casemiro, Guimaraes; Riberio, Paqueta, Neymar; Barbosa

Brazil take on Chile in their quarter-final tie at Copa America 2021 on Saturday, July 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The Selecao are one of two teams in the ongoing continental championship alongside Argentina who are yet to lose a game so far. Slotted in Group B with the likes of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, Tite’s men scored 10 goals in four group stage games and conceded a mere two.

Chile, on the other hand, were in a rather difficult group. They faced Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia in their group stage games and could only muster one win from those matches. They scored just three goals in four games and conceded four.

Brazil vs Chile head-to-head in football

Brazil vs Chile head-to-head record is dominated by the former. The two teams have played a total of 72 matches so far and Brazil have come out victorious in a whopping 51 of those. Chile, on their part, have won just eight while 13 matches have ended in a draw.

Saturday’s clash is going to be Brazil and Chile’s first meeting in the knockout stage of Copa America since 2007. The last time they squared off in the competition, Brazil thrashed Chile 6-1 to cruise to the semi-final.

Since the turn of the century, Chile have managed just two wins over Brazil. One of which came in 2000 in a FIFA World Cup CONMEBOL South American qualifier, while the other came in 2015 in a World Cup qualifying clash.

Brazil team news and injury updates

Head coach Tite rested several of his first-team players for Brazil’s final group stage game against Ecuador, meaning that fans are likely to witness a full-strength Brazil team in the quarter-final.

Brazil have no injury concerns whatsoever and the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, Neymar, Fred, Casemiro, Thiago Silva and Danilo are certain to return to the first team.

Chile team news and injury updates

Unlike Brazil, Chile had to wait until the very last group stage game to make it to the quarter-final. Their form in the competition has been poor and they are once again expected to miss their star man Alexis Sanchez. The 32-year-old suffered an injury ahead of the competition and while he has recovered, it is unclear whether he will be used or not.

The absence of Sanchez means all eyes will be on senior players like Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas. Furthermore, Chile are also sweating over the injury of defender Guillermo Maripan.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has made changes to the original schedule for Copa America 2021, with nine-time champions Brazil playing their Group B match against Venezuela in the opening fixture on June 13 (June 14 in India).

Postponed from last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition will have 10 teams participating after Australia and Qatar withdrew due to fixture congestion. The competition was originally set to be jointly hosted by Argentina and Colombia, but the CONMEBOL announced that Brazil will now host the entire competition.

Argentina was removed from hosting Copa America 2021 owing to the rising coronavirus cases in the country. Earlier, Colombia had to be axed as a host due to ongoing protests in the nation.

The fixtures were rejigged as well. Hosts Brazil will feature in the opener at the Mane Garrincha Stadium. The Copa America 2021 final will be held at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.

The last edition of the tournament was also held in Brazil in 2019.

With the revised structure, the 10-team Copa America will have two groups of five teams each. The first group comprises Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Bolivia while the second group includes defending champions Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, which means only one team from each group won't move on to the knockout stages.

Football superstars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are expected to take part in the competition. The squads for the national teams are yet to be announced.

Chile's footballers have refused to play in next week's friendly against Peru due to the weeks-long crisis in their country, the football association (ANFP) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Coach Reinaldo Rueda has released all his players back to their clubs.

Chile were due to play neighbors Peru, who beat them in the Copa America semi-finals in Brazil in July, in a friendly in the Peruvian capital Lima on Tuesday.

"We're footballers but above all we're people and citizens," Chile's captain Gary Medel, who plays in defence for Bologna in Italy, wrote on Twitter.

"Right now Chile has much more important priorities than next Tuesday's match."

The decision was taken following "a team meeting" on Wednesday morning at Chile's training center on the outskirts of the capital Santiago, ANFP said.

ANFP said it had informed its Peruvian counterparts of the decision.

Upon arriving in Lima from their clubs earlier this week, some players expressed a reluctance to play the match.

"There's a difficult atmosphere and in my opinion we shouldn't play out of respect for what's happening in the country," Bayer Leverkusen's 74-time capped midfielder Charles Aranguiz said on Tuesday.

Several players have expressed support for the protest movement against President Sebastian Pinera that descended into violence on October 18 and has since left 21 people dead.

Demonstrators angry at social and economic inequality are demanding constitutional changes and that Pinera resign.

"There's a more important match, which is that of equality so that all Chileans live in a fairer country," said Medel.

"We support the demonstrations, but without violence and without injuries, as much on the side of the protesters as the armed forces."

As well as the dead, some 2,000 people have been injured, 200 of which suffered eye injuries from pellets fired by security forces.

"I'm with the people, they rose up and are asking for justice so you have to support them to the fullest," said Barcelona's veteran midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Chile had already canceled a friendly due to be played this week against Bolivia -- another Andean country wracked by street protests following a disputed election on October 20.

These November internationals were Rueda's last opportunity to see his players before Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying begins in March.

The final of the Copa Libertadores, South America's equivalent of the Champions League, between Argentine holders River Plate and Brazilian giants Flamengo on November 23 has been moved from Santiago to Lima due to the Chile protests.

Professional football in Chile has been suspended for almost a month, with no matches played in either of the top two divisions.
